Balon del Sabato Mercatino delle pulci a Torino

THE SATURDAY BALON

The Balon is the historic flea market of the city of Turin, on the scene since 1857.

The Saturday Balon takes place every Saturday from 7 AM to 6 PM

It is open to professional and non-professional operators, ingenious operators and artisans.
It is a mix of colors, aromas and flavors .. it is a work also dictated by the recovery of what the Balon was in the past, its history, its importance, its commercial and socio-cultural wealth.

"It is such a confusion of things and leftovers that it would drive the unfortunate person who had to take an inventory crazy."

[Edmondo De Amicis]

THE HISTORY OF THE BALON

1875

The Rag Market

This is how the Balon was called in 1875, which was installed for the first time in Piazza della Repubblica, after having been hosted in other streets and squares in Turin.
The market was held every Saturday and hosted feramiù and rag sellers, hence the Piedmontese expressions mercà dle pate or mercà di pui (cenci or flea market).

1950

The Balon Market is expanding

Since 1950 the market has become increasingly larger, to include the current streets Lanino, Mameli, Cottolengo, Borgo Dora and of course Piazza Borgo Dora. At the same time the neighborhood was enriched with shops and antiques.

2023

The Market today

The Balon market today, in fact, takes place in the streets of Borgo Dora, Cottolengo, Lanino, Mameli, Cortile del Maglio and has the characteristics of a weekly fair well blended with that of the markets.
There are around 300 exhibitors with 50 shops, open from Tuesday to Saturday.
Walking through the streets we can find antiques, second-hand goods,
craftsmanship, vintage, creativity, collecting and simple used.
